Hawks host Belhaven in first soccer game at the Samford Complex

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Huntingdon will host the first men's soccer game in the new Samford Complex on Friday.

The Hawks host Belhaven at 3 p.m. for the first game in the new facility.  It will be the first of two home games for Huntingdon this weekend. The Hawks host Guilford College on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Head coach Matt Cooper and assistant coach Mark Ward have seen improvement in the team during the preseason and expect the Hawks to continue to work hard and compete each day.

Head Coach Matt Cooper on playing the first soccer game in the Samford Complex: "To be the first game in the new soccer facility is an awesome feeling. We are very appreciative to the school and all of the donors that made this facility happen. It is a great investment in the soccer programs here at Huntingdon and it is a great feeling to know we have such good support. The team realizes this and is very grateful and excited to open the year here at home."

Cooper on his team's attitude going into this weekend: "Opening with two home games to start the year is a great way to get things going. We are the first Huntingdon home athletic event of the year and we are really excited about that. We have made a lot of progress in the preseason and have really worked hard. Now it is time to put what we have been working and focusing on into the games this weekend."

Cooper on using the opening weekend as a measuring stick: "We open with two tough opponents this weekend. They will be difficult games, but we have been working hard and have been focused in training, so we will be ready. We are well prepared and ready to start the season off on the right foot.

"Our goal is to start the season with two wins. The last time a Huntingdon men's soccer team started the season 2-0 was almost two decades ago. So, our goal is to go 2-0 on opening weekend and rewrite history for the men's program here at Huntingdon."
