Hawks defeat Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team defeated Maryville 7-2 in Sunday's USA South Athletic Conference matchup.
With the win, Huntingdon is tied with LaGrange for third in the USA South West Division standings with a 3-3 record. Overall, the Hawks have a 7-11 record while Maryville drops to 0-7 in the conference and 3-9 overall.
Huntingdon jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. Justin McQueen and Ryan Runager cruised to an 8-1 win in No. 2 position while the No. 3 team of Adam Self and Ben Marler took an 8-5 win.
The No. 1 team of John Jones and Bailey Burns won a close 9-7 match to extend the Hawks lead.
In singles, Adam Self (No. 3) won 6-1, 6-1, Bailey Burns (No. 4) won 7-5, 6-3, Ben Marler (No. 5) won 6-0, 6-1 and Mark Melchor took a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Huntingdon hosts Covenant on Friday for a 2 p.m. conference match.
