Huntingdon softball handles LaGrange in USA South sweep

LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team picked up its sixth USA South Athletic Conference sweep with a pair of wins against LaGrange on Thursday.

Huntingdon took the first game 6-0 and won 7-2 in the second game.

Morgan Goshorn and Jenna Rimensnyder each homered in the second game. Goshorn was 3-for-4 with a solo homer, three RBIs and a run in Game 2. Rimensnyder finished with two hits, a two-run homer, three RBIs and three runs in the doubleheader.

Heather McGuirk also had three hits and finished with two RBIs and two runs on the day. Daisha Henderson finished with four runs and two stolen bases.

In Game 1, Huntingdon (19-12, 15-5 USA South) scored three runs in the first two innings and added three more runs in the fourth inning.

Lauren Welch was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the first game. McGuirk had two RBIs and a run and Rimensnyder had a RBI and a run. Henderson scored twice, Katy Messick had one RBI and Kala Rooney and Halleigh DiNicholas each scored once.

Messick (7-3) earned the win, striking out six, walking three and scattering four hits in four innings. Kaitlynn Wiggins allowed one hit and walked two in the final three innings.

Brooke Meadows (9-4) picked up the win in Game 2, striking out eight, walking two, allowing eight hits and two runs in seven innings.

Rimensnyder's two-run homer put the Lady Hawks in front 5-1 in the fourth inning. Huntingdon led 5-2 in the sixth inning when Jamie Langford drove in Rimensnyder to make it a four-run game. Goshorn's solo home run in the seventh, her third homer of the season, gave Huntingdon a five-run lead.

In addition to Goshorn, Rimensnyder and Langford, McGuirk was 2-for-3 with a run in the game, Ashlee Zachmeyer had a RBI, Henderson scored twice and DiNicholas scored once. Rooney had two stolen bases in the game.

Huntingdon closes out conference play this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders. The Lady Hawks host North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday and Methodist on Sunday. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to start at noon.
