Lady Hawks split at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon softball team closed the weekend with a split at conference rival Maryville on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks fell 2-0 in Game 1 and won 6-3 in Game 2.

Samara Miller led Huntingdon with five hits in the doubleheader and finished 5-for-8 and scored one run. Brandi Blair was 4-for-8 with an RBI and a run, Jesse Dunn had two RBIs and two runs, including a two-run home run in Game 2, and Lindsey Selph had two RBIs and a run.

Huntingdon (6-14, 5-3 USA South) took the lead in the second game with five runs in the third inning. Trailing 3-0, a fielder's choice by Blair opened the Lady Hawks' scoring in the fifth and a two-run single by Selph made it 3-3. Dunn capped the scoring with a two-run home run.

Kelsie Dardon drove in Huntingdon's final run with an RBI double in the fifth inning.

Miller was 3-for-4 in Game 2, Dardon was 2-for-3 and Dunn was 2-for-4. Dunn scored twice and Miller, Blair, Selph and Maggie Porter each scored once.

Madison Hunt (3-0) pitched a complete game for the win, striking out two, allowing six hits and one earned run.

Raina Lanier (2-8) took the loss in Game 1, striking out eight, walking two, scattering eight hits and allowing two earned runs.

In the first game, Maryville (15-5, 6-2 USA South) scored one run in the first inning and one run in the fifth inning. Huntingdon stranded 10 runners in the game and ended the third inning and the sixth inning with the bases loaded.

Blair was 3-for-4 in Game 1 and Miller was 2-for-4.

Huntingdon returns to action at home on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Birmingham-Southern. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
