Huntingdon falls to Birmingham-Southern in season-opening doubleheader

DUE TO CURRENT COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, ONLY HUNTINGDON STUDENTS ARE PERMITTED AT OUTDOOR ATHLETIC EVENTS

 

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Birmingham-Southern to open the season on Wednesday.

The Hawks fell 3-0 in Game 1 and lost 9-1 in five innings in Game 2.

In Game 1, the Hawks fell behind 1-0 in the first inning and gave up two final runs in the fifth inning. Annie Nolan doubled in the fifth inning for the Hawks' only hit. Lauren Melton (0-1) took the loss in 5 1/3 innings.

In Game 2, Huntingdon fell behind 6-0 in the first three innings before Birmingham-Southern added three final runs in the fourth inning.

The Hawks scored one run in the bottom of the third inning when Mollie Singleterry singled to drive in Brooke Stefankiewicz. Stefankiewicz finished 3-for-3 in the second game and Emma Bauer was 2-for-2. Elise Maddox (0-1) took the loss in two innings.
