Huntingdon splits with Wesleyan in conference opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon softball team opened conference play with a split against Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Hawks lost the first game 6-4 before winning the second game 3-2.

In the Game 2 win, Huntingdon took a 3-0 lead in the first three innings and held off a late Wesleyan push. Mollie Singleterry and Anna Vaughn each had one RBI for Huntingdon and Brooke Stefankiewicz, Emma Bauer and Emily Nieuwstraten each scored one run.

Holly Sharp (1-0) earned the win in 5 1/3 innings and Lauren Melton pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn her first save of the season.

In Game 1, Melton (1-6) took the loss in 3 1/3 innings. Stefankiewicz scored two runs and had two stolen bases, Singleterry and Vaughn each had one run and one RBI and Dani Brown and Caitlyn Caffee each had one RBI.

                                                                                               

Coming Up: Huntingdon hosts Wesleyan again on Sunday in a non-conference doubleheader. Game 1 is set for noon.
