Huntingdon loses non-conference doubleheader at Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.  – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a non-conference doubleheader at Covenant on Saturday.

The Hawks lost the first game 5-4 and fell 4-3 in the second game.

In Game 1, Huntingdon led 4-2 in the fifth inning before Covenant rallied with one run in the bottom of fifth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. In Game 2, the Scots carried a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning before the Hawks cut it to one run with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Brooke Stefankiewicz scored two runs in the first game and Emma Bauer and Caitlyn Caffee each scored one run. Caffee had two hits and was the only Hawk with multiple hits in either game. Emily Nieuwstraten and Dani Brown each had one RBI.

Lauren Melton (2-7) took the loss in three innings of relief. In Game 2, Elise Maddox (2-5) took the loss in 4 1/3 innings.    

In Game 2, Nieuwstraten drove in all three of Huntingdon's runs with a bases-loaded triple. Stefankiewicz, Mollie Singleterry and Brown each scored one run.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action in a conference doubleheader at Brevard on March 27. Game 1 is set for 11 a.m. (Central).
