Huntingdon splits at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga.  – The Huntingdon softball team won Game 1 before losing Game 2 in a conference doubleheader at Piedmont on Sunday.

Huntingdon won the first game 1-0 and lost the second game 4-3. Both games came down to the final inning.

In Game 1, Lydia Lewis scored on an error in the top of the seventh inning to give Huntingdon the lead. In Game 2, leading 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Piedmont used a pair of run-scoring singles to take the lead.

Lauren Melton (4-8) pitched a complete-game shutout in Game 1, striking out nine, walking one and allowing five hits. Lewis scored one run and Anna Vaughn had one RBI. Brooke Stefankiewicz and Emma Bauer each had two hits.

In Game 2, Caitlyn Caffee scored two runs, Stefankiewicz had one RBI and Emily Nieuwstraten scored one run. Holly Sharp (2-2) took the loss in Game 2.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will host Maryville in a conference doubleheader on Saturday. Game 1 is set for noon.
