Huntingdon sweeps Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon softball team took both games of a doubleheader from Maryville on Saturday.

The Hawks won the first game 7-6 and closed the day with a 5-4 victory.

Caitlyn Caffee, Brooke Stefankiewicz and Hannah Vines combined for 12 of Huntingdon's 19 hits, five runs and four RBIs in the doubleheader.

In Game 1, Huntingdon built a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning but fell behind 6-5 in the sixth inning. Still trailing by one run in the bottom of the seventh Huntingdon tied the game when Vines drove in Emma Bauer with a single and ended the game on a sacrifice fly by Annie Nolan that scored Emily Nieuwstraten.

Stefankiewicz finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs, Bauer had two hits, two RBIs and a run, Vines had two hits and one RBI and Caffee had two hits and one run. Lydia Lewis scored two runs, Anna Vaughn and Nolan each had one RBI and Nieuwstraten scored one run.

Elise Maddox (3-6) earned the win in two innings of relief.

In Game 2, Huntingdon scored five runs in the second inning and held off the Scots in the final five innings. Christian Chandler drove in Vines for Huntingdon's first run and Nolan drove in Vaughn to make it 2-0. Caffee drove in Chandler and Nolan with a single and  Stefankiewicz drove in Caffee to make it 5-0.

Maryville answered with two runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning but Huntingdon held the Scots to one hit in the final three innings.

Lauren Melton (5-8) earned the win in four innings of relief.

Vines, Vaughn and Caffee each had two hits in the final game.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will host Maryville in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday. Game 1 is set for noon.
