Huntingdon closes weekend with second sweep of Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon softball team won both games of a non-conference doubleheader with Maryville on Sunday.

Huntingdon won the first game 11-2 in five innings and won the second game 11-9. It was Huntingdon's second sweep of Maryville in two days. The Hawks beat the Scots 7-6 and 5-4 on Saturday.

Caitlyn Caffee had five RBIs in the doubleheader and Hannah Vines (four), Emma Spurlin (three), Emma Bauer (three) and Lydia Lewis (three) combined to score 13 of Huntingdon's 22 runs.

In Game 1, Huntingdon scored seven runs in the first inning and four runs in the fourth inning. Caffee had three RBIs, two runs and a triple in the game, Vines had two RBIs and two runs and Macie Wilson had two RBIs.

Brooke Stefankiewicz and Anna Vaughn each had two hits and one run, Spurlin and Hailey League each had one RBI and one run, Gabby Patterson and Annie Nolan each had one RBI and Bauer, Emily Nieuwstraten and Lewis each scored one run.

Caroline Elliot (2-0) was the winning pitcher in both games. She earned the win in Game 1 in 4 2/3 innings of relief and picked up the win in Game 2 in 2/3 of an inning of relief. Lauren Melton recorded a save in Game 2.

In the second game, the Hawks trailed 7-3 in the fourth inning before rallying. Huntingdon scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning and took the lead with five runs in the sixth inning.

Trailing 8-6 in the sixth inning, Nieuwstraten drove in three runs and later scored on an error before Spurlin drove in Vines for the final run.

Nieuwstraten finished the game with three RBIs and a run, Caffee had two hits and two RBIs and Spurlin had two hits, two RBIs, two runs and two triples. Bauer had two runs and a triple, Vines scored two runs and had one RBI, Lewis scored two runs, Sydney Conville had one RBI and one run and Nolan scored one run.
