Huntingdon closes regular season with fourth straight sweep

BREVARD, N.C.  – The Huntingdon softball team closed out the regular season by sweeping Brevard in a conference doubleheader on Sunday.

The Hawks won the first game 10-2 in six innings and won the second game 13-4 in five innings. This was the fourth straight doubleheader sweep for Huntingdon in nine days.

Anna Vaughn, Hannah Vines, Emily Nieuwstraten and Annie Nolan combined for 17 of Huntingdon's 25 hits in the doubleheader, 10 of the Hawks' 23 runs and nine RBIs.

Vaughn was 5-for-7 with four RBIs, three runs and two doubles and Vines was 5-for-7 with two runs and one RBI. Nieuwstraten was 4-for-7 with three RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases and Nolan was 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. Emma Bauer scored five runs for Huntingdon.

In Game 1, Huntingdon scored five runs in the first inning, three runs in the third inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Vaughn drove in three runs, had two hits and scored one run. Nieuwstraten and Vines each had two hits, one RBI and one run.

Bauer scored two runs and Nolan, Caitlyn Caffee and Hailey League each had one RBI and one run, Lydia Lewis scored one run and had two stolen bases and Nevaeh McIntyre scored one run.

Lauren Melton (7-8) pitched a complete game to earn the win in Game 1. Elise Maddox (5-6) pitched a complete game to earn the win in Game 2.

Huntingdon scored six runs in the first inning of Game 2 to take control. The Hawks led 12-0 after three innings. Bauer scored three runs and had two RBIs in the second game. Vaughn was 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI and Vines was 3-for-3 with a run.

Nieuwstraten had two hits, two RBIs and one run, Nolan had two hits, two runs and two doubles and Caffee had one RBI and one run. Dani Brown drove in one run and Brooke Stefankiewicz, League and Lewis each scored one run.
