Huntingdon falls to Piedmont in USA South West Division championship

DEMOREST, Ga.  – The Huntingdon softball team lost to Piedmont in the USA South West Division championship on Saturday.

Huntingdon lost the first game of the doubleheader 8-0 in five innings and fell 9-1 in six innings in the second game.

In Game 1, the score was tied 0-0 when Piedmont scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. In Game 2, Piedmont took a 5-1 lead in the first two innings and added four runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Emily Nieuwstraten, Hannah Vines and Caitlyn Caffee accounted for Huntingdon's three hits in Game 1. In Game 2, Anna Vaughn drove in Nieuwstraten for the Hawks' run. Nieuwstraten, Vaughn, Emma Bauer, Dani Brown, Lydia Lewis and Sydney Conville each had one hit.

Lauren Melton (7-9) took the loss in Game 1 and Holly Sharp (2-3) took the loss in Game 2.
