Hawks Fly Past Millsaps

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks, now 4-0 overall defeated Millsaps (4-2 overall), in a double header with a score of 10-2 in game one and 8-4 in game two.

Game 1:

Millsaps earned their way on the board in the first inning to take the 1-0 lead with a single to center field and held the Hawks to no runs in the bottom of the first. With Brooke Cooper in the circle, Huntingdon got the next three batters out to take their turn at the plate again. The bottom of the second inning was huge for the Hawks as Jordan Holman led off with a triple to right field that was followed by a single from first baseman, Bailey Murphy to bat in Holman and put the Hawks on the board (1-1). A sacrifice fly from Katie Burch got Huntingdon their next run and put another in scoring position. Natalie Ritchey stepped up for a single to left field that brought in the runner on third (3-1). The Hawks were able to score one more run in the second for a score of 4-1 heading to the top of the third. Millsaps refused to go away as they scored another run and kept the Hawks scoreless in the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth Holman returned to the plate with Maddie Grace Hubbard on second, Holman knocked a homerun over center field to bring momentum back to the Hawks (6-2). Elli Lorance made her first collegiate at bat appearance with a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks the 7-2 lead heading into the fifth inning, where both teams were unable to score any runs. The sixth inning claimed to be the final as Burch, Lorance, and Ritchey each batted in a runner to lift the Hawks past the Majors 10-2.

Game One Notes:

Brooke Cooper earned her first win in the circle after pitching 3 innings and allowing 5 hits with one strikeout. Katelyn Holcombe came in to pitch the final three innings where she struck out three batters and allowed two hits. Jordan Holman went 3-4 at the plate with a homerun, a triple, and 2 rbis. Maddie Grace Hubbard and Katie Burch batted 2-3 and Burch had 2 rbis.

 

 

Game 2:

The Hawks started the game with energy after a single from Holman that brought in two batters for the Hawks to take the early 2-0 lead. The second and third innings were stagnant for both teams as neither were able to score. In the top of the fourth Millsaps was able to tie the game with a homerun (2-2). Huntingdon would make a pitching change in the fifth after Millsaps brought in two more batters to take the 4-2 lead. Katelyn Holcombe went to the circle for the Hawks and allowed no  runs for the Majors as she earned her firstt save of the season. Huntingdon fought back in the bottom of the fifth inning after Murphy tripled to bring in two runners and Riley Rudick doubled to bring in Murphy for the Hawks to claim the lead (5-4). The last runs of the game came from a double to left field from Ritchey to bring in three runners (8-4). The Hawks defense allowed only one hit for the Majors in the last two innings to hold them scoreless.

 

 Game Two Notes:

Kate Holcombe entered the game for her first save of the season as she only allowed one hit and struck out three batters. At the plate Hubbard went 2-3 with a double and Murphy went 2-3 with a triple to lead the Hawks to victory in game two.

 

 

The Hawks return to Lucinda Cannon Field this weekend on February 18th and 19th as they take on Centre and Fontbonne. Game times are 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM CST for the 18th and 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM CST for the 19th.
