Hawks Sweep the Weekend with Wins over Fontbonne and Centre

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks extend their winning streak to 8-0 as they run rule Fontbonne and Centre in day two of the Huntingdon Softball Tournament

Game 1: Huntingdon 11 – Fontbonne 1

The Hawks started strong scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first. With an error from Fontbonne's short stop all runners advanced, and Natalie Ritchey scored. Jordan Holman singled to left field to bring in the next runner, Brooke Stefankiewicz. With another error from Fontbonne, Maddie Grace Hubbard scored the third run for the Hawks. The last run of the first inning came from a Bailey Murphy double to bring home Holman.

In the second inning the Griffins found their way across the plate with a single to left field that led in the runner on third base (4-1). Huntingdon answered that run in the bottom of the second as Emma Spurlin stole home (5-1).

Now with Holly Sharp on the mound, the Hawks got the first three batters out in the fourth inning to take their turn on offense. With a double from Navaeh McIntyre, Kaylee Hicks scored, and Miranda Treadway advanced to second. Ritchey followed up McIntyre's hit with a double to bring in Treadyway (7-1). Huntingdon's eighth run came from a sacrifice fly from Holman that scored Ritchey.

Sharp continued to hold off the Griffins and Holman closed out the game with a three-run homerun to lift the Hawks past Fontbonne.

Game 2: Huntingdon 12 – Centre 4

A three run double by Riley Rudick to kick off the first inning gave the Hawks the early lead (3-0). The Colonels singled to left field to bat in one runner and cut the lead to two (3-1). Natalie Ritchey doubled to left field to bring in Kamryn Miller that forced Centre to make a pitching change.

 

After the change, Ritchey scored on a wild pitch to close out the second inning (5-1). Centre found their way back to the plate to double and bring in a runner to try and climb back but a bunt from Jordan Holman stunned the Colonels as Ritchey scored. A single from Rudick scored Stefaniewicz in the bottom of the fourth to shoot the Hawks up by five (7-2).

 

A wild pitch from the Hawks and a double from Centre gave the Colonels two runs in the top of he fifth inning (7-4). Miranda Treadway knocked one over the fence for her first solo homerun of the season in the bottom of the fifth that soon led to more hits for the Hawks. With bases loaded, Holman singled to left field to bring in Ellie Lorance and Bailey Murphy followed with a three run double to shut out the Colonels in 6 innings.

The Hawks return to Lucinda Cannon Field on Saturday February 25th as they host Mt. St. Joseph and Wartburg for the weekend at 12:00 and 2:00 PM CST on Saturday and 1:00 and 3:00 PM CST on Sunday.
