Hawks Split on Day One Against Mt. St. Joseph and Wartburg

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks winning streak came to an end as they lost to Mt. St. Joseph 10-2 in game one but overcame the loss with a win versus Wartburg in game two 7-5. The Hawk's record is now 9-1 overall.

Game 1: Huntingdon 2 – Mt. St. Joseph 10

After a slow first two innings with starting pitcher Crimson Wells not giving up any runs, the Hawks headed to offense where Jordan Holman's single brought in Maddie Grace Hubbard and Brooke Stefankiewicz to put the Hawks up by 2. The Lions answered after starting pitcher Crimson Wells was replaced by Holly Sharp who gave up a two-run single in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. A single in the fifth gave MSJ the one run lead and led to a huge Lions sixth inning.

The Hawks defense had no answer after trying three more pitchers for a seven run sixth inning by MSJ. All hits were singles that continued to advance runners for the Lions and eventually bring them across the plate to give Huntingdon their first loss of the season.

Game 2: Huntingdon 7 – Wartburg 5

A Stefankiewicz bunt with Natalie Ritchey on second after a walk and stolen base, scored Ritchey and gave the Hawks the advantage to start the game. Stefankiewicz found herself crossing the plate moments later after an error from the first baseman for a quick two runs for the Hawks (2-0). The Knights solo homerun at the top of the third off of starting pitcher Brooke Cooper put them on the board to cut the lead (2-1).

Nevaeh McIntyre singled to right field and Madison Salzman stepped in to pinch run for her and proceeded to steal two bases to get in scoring position. Elli Lorance followed with a single to second base to score Salzman and close out the fourth inning.

After a Knights two run double to tie the game, Aubree Flanagan went to the circle for the Hawks in the fifth and another two run double from Wartburg created some ground that the Hawks had to overcome (5-3).

Not deterred, Huntingdon took the plate and Bailey Murphy's single scored Jordan Holman and left the Hawks down by one (5-4). Flannagan allowed no more runs for the Knights and in the bottom of the sixth the Hawks regained the lead after a single from Ritchey and triple from Maddie Grace Hubbard for a combined three RBIs.
