Hawks Drop first Pair of Road Games to Case Western and Brevard

Raleigh, North Carolina - Huntingdon competed in the first day of the Grand Slam Triangle Tournament and fell in two consecutive games for the first time this season bringing their record to 11-3.

Game 1: Case Western 3 – Huntingdon 1

Starting the game for the Hawks, Crimson Wells shut out the Spartans in the top of the first inning. First in the lineup, Natalie Ritchey wasted no time to get on base with a single that was followed by a Brooke Stefankiewicz walk. With Jordan Holman's next at bat, she advanced both runners while getting out at first. A Bailey Murphy single after that would give the Hawks their only run and lead of the game (1-0).

Case Western's solo homerun in the top of the second dictated the remainder of the game. After a pair of singles in the top of the third that scored two more runs for the Spartans, Brooke Cooper came to the circle for Huntingdon (3-1).

The Hawks struggled offensively for the next four innings and were unable to score another run. Brooke Cooper's defensive effort allowed no more runs in the final four innings and only three hits as the Hawks fell in game one.

An obstruction call on the Hawks catcher scored Brevard's first run in the bottom of the third inning. That call led to a one run single to score the Tornados second and final run of the game.

The Hawks tried to make a late comeback in the 7th inning when Elli Lorance pinch hit and gathered a single that was followed by a Bailey Murphy single to right field, but it was not enough to swing the momentum in the Hawks favor.
