Huntingdon Hawks Defeat Emory in Friday’s Double-Header

Atlanta, Georgia – The Hawks (15-3) took Emory into extra innings for a win in game one and run ruled the Eagles in five innings in game two.

Game One: Huntingdon 8 – Emory 6

 In the top of the first inning the Hawks opened the game with two runs after Maddie Grace Hubbard got hit by a pitch, Jordan Holman followed that with an RBI double, and Bailey Murphy with an RBI single (2-0).

The Eagles answered right back in the bottom of the first with two runs from a single and a homerun off starting pitcher Crimson Wells who was relieved by Brooke Cooper in the fourth inning (2-2). The bats for both teams then went quiet for the next three innings.

In the top of the fifth inning Brooke Stefankiewicz led off with a single, Maddie Grace Hubbard then singled, and Jordan Holman had an RBI double that scored them both. Bailey Murphy then reached on a single, and an error by the Eagles led to another Hawk reaching base. Momentum on the Hawks side, Dani Holt hit an RBI single to build their lead (6-2).

In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles answered back putting four runs up to apply pressure to the Hawks while tying the game at six and pushing the game to an extra inning. Katelyn Holcombe came to the circle for Brooke Cooper to strike out the last batter and end the inning.

Holcombe allowed one hit and no runs in her defensive effort as she gained the win for the Hawks before being replaced by Aubree Flanagan to finish the game in the eighth.

In the top of the eighth, Miranda Treadway hit a double and Kamryn Miller placed a sacrifice bunt down to move her to third base. Senior, Natalie Ritchey scored Treadway on an RBI single, and Ritchey scored on a single from Maddie Grace Hubbard to secure the Hawks win (8-6).

Game Two: Huntingdon 15 – Emory 7

The Hawks got the game started with an error by the Eagles to allow Natalie Ritchey to advance to second base. Jordan Holman hit an RBI double to gather the Hawks first run of the game followed by Bailey Murphy's RBI single (2-0).

In the second inning, Miranda Treadway reached base on a walk followed by a infield hit by Kamryn Miller. Singles by Natalie Ritchey and Maddie Grace Hubbard allowed the Hawks to earn two more runs (4-0).

In the top of the third inning the Hawks collected eight runs off one error and six hits, which included a three-run homerun by Jordan Holman (12-0). In the bottom of the third inning the Eagles scored six runs on five hits and one error and Holly Sharp came to the circle for relief of starting pitcher, Aubree Flanagan (12-5).

In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles scored one run off two walks and one hit (12-6). In the top of the fifth inning, Natalie Ritchey singled, Maddie Grace Hubbard reached on an error, Jordan Holman hit a two run double, and Bailey Murphy had an RBI single to push their lead (15-6). 

The Eagles tried to score more than one run in the fifth inning to continue the game but pitcher, Holly Sharp shut them down as she earned the save in the circle (15-7).

The Hawks return to Lucinda Cannon Field on March 16 against Berry College. Game time is set for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM CST.
