Hawks Blow by Berea

Berea, Kentucky - Huntingdon (19-5 overall, 3-1 CCS) defeated Berea College (1-11 overall, 0-6 CCS) across two games with a combined 42 runs.

Game 1: Huntingdon 21 – Berea 1

A three run first inning for the Hawks was led by a two-run single from Riley Rudick (3-0). Heading to the field, Crimson Wells started in the circle where she allowed no hits or runs during her stint.

To begin a five run second inning for the Hawks, Brooke Stefankiewicz, Natalie Ritchey, and Kamryn Miller all got on base and shortly after, all three scored runs (6-0). A Mountaineer error scored Jordan Holman and Maddie Grace Hubbard as the Hawks went up by eight runs.

In the third through fifth inning, the Hawks tabbed 14 runs. Notable hits from the Hawks were a two run double from Keelyn Johnson in the fourth and another two run double from Maddie Grace Hubbard in the fifth inning.

Berea hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning for their lone run of the game.

Sammy Cantavesp went to the circle to close out the game in the fifth inning as she allowed two hits and struck out two batters to end the game in five with a run rule.

Game 2: Huntingdon 21 – Berea 0

To start game two, Natalie Ritchey walked to get on base and Kamryn Miller singled. With two on base, another walk to get on by Maddie Grace Hubbard loaded the bases. A wild pitch from Brevard scored Ritchey and a walk scored Miller for a 2-0 lead by the Hawks.

Katelyn Holcombe started in the circle for the Hawks and held Berea to no runs across three innings. Huntingdon continued to put runs on the board with a big second inning where they scored nine runs. Two of the runs being scored by a Katie Burch doubled that sent in Riley Rudick and Bailey Murphy (11-0).

The Hawks continued to score in every inning as they posted one run in the third, eight in the fourth and one in the fifth to run rule the Mountaineers.

Holly Sharp contributed in the circle, allowing no runs to hold Berea scoreless in her two innings pitched.

The Hawks return to action at Lucinda Cannon Field on Friday March 31st as they take on Belhaven University at 12:00 and 2:00 PM CST.
