Hawks Softball Splits with LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. - Huntingdon (23-7 overall, 7-3 CCS) split with the Panthers of LaGrange (10-16 overall, 4-4 CCS) in their doubleheader contest.

Game 1: LaGrange 10 – Huntingdon 2

The Panthers struck first with a three run first inning for the lead. After a pitching change heading to the second, LaGrange increased their lead to 8-0.

The Hawks were finally able to add a run to the board after Miranda Treadway doubled to bring home Maddie Grace Hubbard in the top of the fourth inning. LaGrange answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Huntingdon looked to score runs in the fifth inning to try and make a comeback as Brooke Stefankiewicz earned her third hit of the day and Bailey Murphy loaded the bases with a single. Hubbard singled to third base to bring in Ritchey for the Hawks final run as the Panthers achieved a double play to close out the game.

Game 2: Huntingdon 6 – LaGrange 2

Holly Sharp started in the circle for the Hawks and shut out the Panthers across the first two innings as the Hawks took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

 

The bases were loaded after Ellie Lorance walked, Riley Rudick singled, and Kamryn Miller reached on a fielder's choice. Natalie Ritchey stepped to the plate where she hit a fielder's choice and Lorance scored off an error. With two outs, Bailey Murphy hit a two-run single to left field to bring in Rudick and Miller for an early lead.

The Panthers tried to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning but were only able to put up two runs off three hits on Sharp (3-2).

Huntingdon would not cross the plate again until the top of the sixth inning as Lorance stole home (4-2). In the seventh, Jordan Holman hit a big two-run double to left field to bring in Miranda Treadway and Maddie Grace Hubbard to push their lead as Sharp held off the Panthers to close out the game (6-2).

The Hawks return to action at Lucinda Cannon Field on Saturday against Piedmont University at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM CT.
