Hawks Complete Tournament Sweep Against William Peace And Mount Saint Joseph

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Huntingdon softball (8-0 overall) completed a sweep of their tournament against  William Peace University (1-5 overall) and Mt. Saint Joseph's (4-3 overall), defeating the two teams 11-3 and 3-1 respectively.

 

Game one against William Peace (5 innings)

Highlights

 

On the mound

  • #13 Piper Messick earned the start for the Hawks, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3 batters

  • #42 Brooke Cooper relieved Messick, striking out two batters and not allowing a hit

 

Game two against Mt. Saint Joseph's

 

Highlights

  • Scoreless through the first two innings, Kylie Stephens brought home Kate Dinkel in the bottom of the third inning with a single, giving Huntingdon a 1-0 lead

  • Bailey Murphy followed with a single, bringing home Kamryn Miller and Kylie Stephens to push the lead to 3-0

  • Mt. Saint Joseph responded in the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly earning their first and only run of the day

  • The Hawks defense held strong in the final 3 innings, not allowing a run to escape with a 3-1 victory

 

On the mound

  • #33 Allie Roberts earned the start for the Hawks and also closed the game. She struck out 4 batters while only allowing one hit and one run

  • #42 Brooke Cooper subbed in for Roberts in the fifth inning, allowing 3 hits and no runs

 

The Hawks look to keep their winning streak alive against Wartburg at home with a double header on February 28th. Games are scheduled for 2:00 and 4:00 PM CT.
