#11 Softball Sweeps Piedmont On The Road

DEMORREST, Ga.- Continuing their historic season, Huntingdon softball(28-4 overall, 11-1 CCS) took down the Lions of Piedmont University(14-15 overall, 8-4 CCS) in each game of a double-header, winning the first 4-2 and following up with a 6-2 victory in the second game.

Game one highlights

After holding the Hawks to just one base hit in the opening frame, Piedmont got on the board in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead early. Following a scoreless second inning, the Hawks evened the score with Kylie Stephens bringing home Maddie Grace Hubbard in the top of the third. Not to be outdone, Piedmont matched this run with one of their own in the following frame to regain their one run advantage 2-1. The Hawks would trail until the fifth inning, where a sacrifice fly from Jordan Holman brought home Kamryn Miller to even the game at 2. Huntingdon took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning with Miranda Treadway crossing home plate to put the Hawks ahead 3-2. Huntingdon would keep the Lions off of the board in the next frame, and a double from Jordan Holman allowed Brooke Stefankiewicz to score the Hawks 4th run of the day and the 4-2 victory.

In the circle

  • Allie Roberts started the game for Huntingdon, but would be replaced by Brooke Cooper in the third inning, only to be placed back into the game to earn the winning strikeout and her first save on the season. Through 2.1 innings, Roberts allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Cooper would finish the game allowing four hits, no runs, and with one strikeout to claim her ninth win on the season.

Game two highlights

With no runs being scored through the first inning, Piedmont earned the first run of the game in the bottom frame of the second with a single RBI to go up 1-0. Katie Burch responded in the fourth inning with a single to center field that allowed Kate Dinkel to score and tie the game. Brooke Stefankiewicz followed Burch with a single RBI of her own that allowed Maddie Grace Hubbard to score and give Huntingdon a 2-1 lead. The Hawks kept pouring it on in the fourth, with Nevaeh McIntyre, Katie Burch, and Brooke Stefankiewicz each scoring to put the Huntingdon ahead 6-1 entering the fifth inning. Piedmont would score on a triple in the sixth inning, but the Hawks were able to hold the Lions off and take a 6-2 victory to complete the sweep.

  • Brooke Cooper would start the second game for the Hawks, allowing one run on two hits through 1.2 innings. Allie Roberts relieved Cooper in the 2nd inning and earned her 14th win on the season, allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts through 5.1 innings.

 

The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 14th, in a double-header at Agnes Scott. Games are scheduled for 11:00 and 1:00 CT.
