Huntingdon track and field closes indoor season at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The first-year Huntingdon women's track and field team wrapped up the indoor season this weekend at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational.

Saturday's meet was the fourth for Huntingdon and head coach Nate Rucker said he is pleased with the progress the team has shown.

"We've seen improvement each meet," Rucker said. "It's been an adjustment for the girls but they're starting to get their track legs under them. I can't say enough about the job assistant coaches Howard Johnson and Justin Linzy have done preparing them to perform each meet. I think the indoor season has definitely been a positive experience for us."

Kim Allen had a strong performance at Sewanee, turning in a fourth-place finish in the shot put and an eighth-place finish in the weight throw. Allen finished with a distance of 11.42 meters in the shot put. Alabama-Huntsville's Elisa Baskin was first with a distance of 12.12 meters.

Huntingdon's Abby Carter was 10th in the shot put and Brianna McClure was 20th. Sara Beasley was 10th in the weight throw.

Huntingdon had three other top-10 performances as Bianca Scott was 10th in the long jump, McClure was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles and the team of Sheaney Marshall, Caitlin McMahon, Jackie Daniels and Kyndall Caldwell placed second in the women's distance medley.

Marshall also finished 11th in the 400 meters and Rachael Phillips was 18th in the mile. Miah Burton was 13th in the 200 meters and Kierra McClain was 20th in the 200 meters.

Huntingdon will open the outdoor season on March 2-3 at the University of North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.

"We're looking forward to the start of the outdoor season," Rucker said. "We want to continue moving forward and building off of what we've started."
