Pickens and Allen pace Huntingdon track and field in Emory Classic
ATLANTA – Patricia Pickens placed third in the 100 meters and finished eighth in the 200 meters and Kim Allen was fourth in the discus to lead the Huntingdon women's track and field team in the Emory Classic this weekend.
The two freshmen accounted for 12 of Huntingdon's 13 points in the meet. Pickens earned six points for the Lady Hawks in the 100 meters and a point in the 200 meters and Allen earned five points in the discus. Pickens also teamed with Miah Burton, Kyndall Caldwell and Sheaney Marshall in the 4x100 meter relay to earn Huntingdon's other point.
This was the fourth outdoor meet for the first-year Huntingdon program and the first meet to compile team results. Huntingdon's 13 points were good for 13th out of 22 teams. Emory won the meet with 216 points. Oberlin was second with 114 points and Columbus State was third with 103 points.
Pickens turned in a time of 12.65 seconds in the finals of the 100 meters. She advanced to the finals from a field of 38 in the preliminaries. Pickens ran the 200 meters in 26.24 seconds. Caldwell just missed the top 10 in the 100 and 200. Caldwell finished 11th in the 100-meter preliminaries (12.91 seconds) and 13th in the field of 40 runners in the 200 meters (26.67 seconds).
In the discus, Allen recorded a distance of 122-feet, nine inches to place fourth out of 25 throwers. Sara Beasley was 10th in the discus with a throw of 101-09.10. Allen just missed the finals in the shot put, finishing 11th out of 30 in the preliminaries with a distance of 34-01.50.
Huntingdon travels to Birmingham for the Hilltop Twilight Classic on April 7.
