Lady Hawks complete two-game sweep of Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team rallied from an early deficit on Tuesday and knocked off Birmingham-Southern 72-64.

It was the Lady Hawks' second win over the Panthers this season. Huntingdon won the first meeting 58-57 on Dec. 16.

"It's gratifying to beat your rival twice in a season," Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips said. "Birmingham-Southern has a good team and they shot the ball well. But I thought we had a good overall team effort and that made the difference. If we can continue to play like this, we'll have a chance in every game we play."

Huntingdon (10-4) fell behind by nine points in the first six minutes of the game. But the Lady Hawks outscored Birmingham-Southern 30-13 in the final 12 minutes of the half.

Huntingdon led 35-27 at the half and held a 7-point lead with 12 minutes to play in the game. The Lady Hawks took control for good with a 14-3 run to take an 18-point lead with 6:46 to play.

Raven Prater led Huntingdon with 16 points, Pat Pickens followed with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals and Mackenzie Garmany hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points.

Arbanee Dean pulled down 15 rebounds, giving her 31 rebounds in the past two games. Tan Munford, who leads the USA South Athletic Conference with 159 rebounds, finished with nine rebounds.

Huntingdon returns to action on Thursday at home against Judson. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
