Huntingdon wins Jackie Ammons Memorial

RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Jenna Dorman and junior Juliette Harp each turned in double-doubles to lead the Huntingdon women's basketball team in a 76-69 win over William Peace in the championship game of the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

Dorman scored a career-high 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Harp had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Hawks (2-0). Tournament MVP Jello Weatherspoon added nine points and five steals. Mackenzie Garmany had seven assists to go with eight points and T.I. Duncan added five assists.

Huntingdon led the entire first quarter but played from behind for much of the second and third quarters. A basket by Weatherspoon gave the Lady Hawks a 61-59 at the end of three quarters.

Huntingdon would not trail again, but Peace (1-2) would not go easily. The Pacers pulled within three points, 72-69, with 1:56 to play in the game before Huntingdon hit 4-of-6 free throws to close the game.

Huntingdon returns to action at Belhaven on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
