Lady Hawks beat Covenant for fourth straight win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team won its fourth straight game and picked up its sixth win in seven games this season with a 75-58 win over Covenant College on Saturday.

The win was the fifth in the last six meetings with the Scots and helped Huntingdon improve to 2-0 in the USA South Athletic Conference.

Junior Shaonica Thomas and senior Payton Kiser each turned in a season high for points to lead the Lady Hawks. Thomas finished with 20 points and six rebounds and Kiser had 19 points and four steals.

Senior T.I. Duncan added 13 points and seven rebounds and senior Mia Hudson had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Huntingdon took the lead late in the first quarter on back-to-back baskets by Kiser and Duncan and led for the remainder of the game. Huntingdon used a 19-4 run during the second and third quarters to take control of the game.

Leading 26-23 with a little less than 6:30 to play in the second quarter, Huntingdon closed the first half with a 10-4 run and carried a 36-27 lead into the half. The Lady Hawks scored the first nine points of the second half, with Hudson hitting a 3-pointer to make it 45-27 less than three minutes into the third quarter.

Huntingdon led by 19 points, 56-37, at the end of the third quarter and built its biggest lead of the game, 59-37, on a Kiser 3-pointer in the first minute of the fourth quarter.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action on Dec. 8 with its first home game of the season. The Lady Hawks host Berea at 2 p.m. in Roland Arena.
