Huntingdon’s season ends in USA South quarterfinals

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Huntingdon women's basketball team made a late push but lost to William Peace 72-61 on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

This was the fourth straight season Huntingdon has reached the conference tournament and the third appearance in the conference quarterfinals.

Huntingdon trailed from the start but never let the Pacers (23-3) pull away. The Hawks (13-14) fell behind by 13 points, 51-38, in the third quarter but continued to battle.

Using a 9-0 run late in the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter, Huntingdon pulled within two points, 57-55, on a 3-pointer by Alexis Osteen with 5:59 to play. But the Hawks could not overtake the Pacers.

Trailing 66-61, and forced to foul with 53 seconds remaining, the Hawks fell behind as William Peace hit 4-of-6 free throws and a layup to close out the game.

Shaonica Thomas had 16 points and Ry Whetstone had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Keturah Billen added nine points and 10 rebounds and Kassidy Crawford finished with seven points and four assists.
