Hawks Drop to Piedmont

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks (1-8 overall, 1-2 in the CCS) fell to Piedmont (6-5 overall, 2-0 in the CCS) 68-59.

The Lions took the early lead going on a 10-0 run in the first seven minutes of the game. A layup by freshman, Charity Shaw put the Hawks on the board, but Huntingdon was only able to score four more points for the remainder of the first bringing the score to 17-6. The Hawks turnovers diminished in the second quarter as they went on a scoring surge outscoring the Lions 9-2 to spark the first 3 minutes of the second (19-15). Huntingdon and Piedmont traded a few buckets after that before the Hawks found themselves down 7 with 2:21 left in the half (27-20). Two threes by AB Davis and a third by Erica Rodriguez shot the Hawks up by two and kept the Lions scoreless to close out the quarter (29-27).

Key Notes for the first half:

Piedmont shot 50% from the three-point line in the first quarter, making 4-8.

Huntingdon had 12 turnovers in the first quarter that led to 10 points for the Lions.

In the second quarter, the Hawks shot 5-7 from beyond the arc and outscored the lions 23-10.

 

Piedmont went on a 12-0 run to start the third and regain their lead which they held for the rest of the game. Piedmont gained their largest lead with 58 seconds remaining in the third with a score of 57-37. The Hawks, unable to go away went on a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead. Briana McGruder brought the game within 10-points with 3:23 left in the game. Traded baskets would not allow the Hawks to fight their way back closer than nine.

Key Notes for the second half:

The Hawks, Kinstin Davis had 15 points in the half.

Piedmont outscored the Hawks 30-12 in the third quarter.
