Hawks Topped by Maryville

Montgomery, Alabama -- The Hawks (6-15 overall, 5-8 in the CCS) fell to Maryville College (9-12 overall, 6-6 in the CCS) with a score of 59-49.

Both teams began the first 1:30 of the game scoreless until Payton Corbett nailed a three for the Hawks, their only field goal of the first quarter. An 11-0 run from the Scots in the next four and a half minutes made it difficult for the Hawks to fight back. Four free-throws from Kinstin Davis and AB Davis lifted them back within four points (11-7). Maryville struck again with a 5-0 run to shut out the first quarter 16-7. Another scoreless minute and half from both teams started the second quarter, this time Maryville struck first and continued their run from the beginning quarter to extend their lead (21-7). After a pair of Hawks free-throws, leading scorer AB Davis made Huntingdon's first field goal of the second quarter as she hit a three at the six minute mark (23-12). That three led to Huntingdon's first run of the night with six points (25-18). In the last minute of the first half, the Scots hit a jumper that was followed by a made Huntingdon three to bring the Hawks only down six heading to halftime (27-21).

The second half started with back and forth buckets with both teams only scoring six points in the first five minutes of the third quarter (33-27). The Hawks were unable to answer a 6-0 run from the Scots that defined the rest of the game. More back and forth claimed the remainder of the third quarter with a score of 44-36 heading into the fourth. After Cassidy Campbell's made layup to start the final quarter, the Scots went on another run of 7-0 that pushed the Hawks further away. Finally, Huntingdon brought the game back within five at the four-minute mark with a fast break layup from Kinstin Davis, but another run from the Scots that included some key free-throws put the game out of reach.
