Hawks Drop to Covenant

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks finished the regular season 8-16 overall and 7-9 in the CCS as they fell to the Scots of Covenant (8-17 overall, 5-11 CCS) with a final score of 61-50.

Today, the Hawks honored seniors Coriana McDaniel, AB Davis, Alina Shoemake, and Sydney Parfait for their academic and athletic achievements while at Huntingdon.

The game began with a slow start with the first point coming from a Covenant free-throw at the 6:52 mark. Huntingdon quickly tied the game and took the lead at 6-4 with back to back and ones from senior, Alina Shoemake (7-4). The Hawks and Scots traded baskets until Covenant got hot with a minute to go in the first quarter and closed it out on a 5-0 run (16-10). Both teams again struggled at the start of the second but Covenant began knocking down triples to extend their lead (19-10). Bringing it within five at 19-15 the Hawks allowed a 13-0 run by the Scots, that included two threes to go up 32-14. With two minutes left, Covenant knocked down their seventh three of the half to deter the Hawks and head to halftime with a score of 37-20.

Huntingdon was able to hold Covenant to one made three for the second half as they began to try to climb their way back in the game. A scoreless three minutes in the third quarter kept the Hawks at a distance heading into the final period (48-30). An 8-0 run in four minutes brought the Hawks within 10 points of the Scots in the fourth (48-38), but eight made free-throws for Covenant in the remainder of the game made it difficult for the Hawks to get any closer than nine points.
