Huntingdon loses close battle with Rhodes

MEMPHIS, TENN.- Huntingdon Women's Basketball (1-2 Overall), traveled to Rhodes College (2-2 Overall), where they fell to the Lynx in a close battle, 61-59.

 

Highlights

 

First Quarter

  • Midway through the first quarter, neither team could gain a strong advantage, with Rhodes leading the Hawks 9-8 at the 5:03 mark. A steal from Briana McGruder set up a layup for Lauren Lyn, giving the Hawks a 10-9 lead with 4:41 remaining in the quarter.]

  • At the 3:55 mark, a three-pointer from sophomore guard Kinstin Davis pushed the Hawks lead to 15-9.

  • Rhodes closed the quarter on a 7-4 scoring run, giving the Hawks a 17-16 lead going into the second quarter.

 

Second Quarter

  • Two layups to start the quarter would give the Lynx a 3 point advantage over the Hawks, leading 20-17 with 9:19 remaining in the quarter.

  • Erica Rodriguez responded to Rhodes' run with a three-pointer, evening the game at 20 with 8:59 remaining until halftime.

  • With 4:39 remaining in the quarter, two free throws from Deshauna Foote regained a lead for Huntingdon, pushing the score to 24-22.

  • Following these free throws, neither team would score for the next 3 minutes, with a layup from Briana McGruder breaking the ice and giving the Hawks a 28-22 lead with 1:30 remaining in the quarter.

  • 3 points from Kinstin Davis in the final 20 seconds of the half gave Huntingdon a 31-26 lead going into intermission.

 

Third Quarter

  • A 5-0 run from Rhodes evened up the score at 31 with 8:27 remaining in the third quarter

  • An 8-4 run from Huntingdon gave the Hawks back the lead, going up 39-35 with 4:14 remaining in the period.

  • With 55 seconds remaining in the quarter, 2 free throws from Rhodes gave the Lynx a 43-41 lead.

  • A layup from Faith Johnson to close the quarter tied the score at 43 entering the 4th period.

 

Fourth Quarter

  • The final period of the game continued the back and forth affair between the two teams, with Huntingdon striking first, gaining a 2 point advantage on a layup from Charity Shaw, making the score 45-43 with 9:40 remaining in the game

  • With 5:12 remaining, Deshauna Foote nailed a three point shot, giving the Hawks a 50-46 lead.

  • With Huntingdon leading 54-48, Rhodes went on a 7-0 run, gaining a 55-54 lead with 2:29 remaining in the game.

  • Capitalizing on their free throw attempts, the Lynx pushed their lead to 5, leading 61-56 with 11 seconds left.

  • A three pointer from Kinstin Davis with 8 seconds left brought the score within two, but the Hawks would run out of time, losing 61-59.

  • Huntingdon scored 19 points off of turnovers compared to 8 from Rhodes

  • Rhodes went 21/24 from the free throw line, while Huntingdon only got 9 attempts, scoring 7 of them.
