Hawks Go Cold Against Centre

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Huntingdon women's basketball (3-6 overall), was defeated by the Centre Colonels (8-1 overall) by a score of 77-56 Sunday afternoon.

 

Highlights

 

First Quarter

  • Centre flew out of the gates, jumping out to a 9-2 lead by the 6:56 mark.

  • Layups from Charity Shaw and Faith Johnson put a dent in the Colonel lead, bringing the score to 11-6 with 2:38 remaining in the quarter

  • With 24 seconds remaining in the period, Centre extended their lead to 17-6 with a layup

Second Quarter

  • Centre grew their lead with a 4-0 run to start the quarter, making the score 21-6 with 8 minutes remaining in the half

  • Jump shots from Kinstin Davis and Cassidy Campbell brought the Hawks within 11 at the 7:14 mark, down 21-10

  • A 9-3 scoring run from the Colonels extended their lead to 30-13 with 4:57 remaining in the half

  • A layup from Jayla Carter to end the quarter brought the first half score to 41-24 with the Hawks trailing.

 

Third Quarter

  • Kinstin Davis drilled a shot from deep on the Hawks first possession to open the second half scoring at 41-27.

  • Davis followed her triple with a layup to bring Huntingdon within 12 at 41-29 with 9:31 remaining in the third quarter.

  • Keeping her hot hand, Davis drilled a three at the 7:58 mark to bring the score to 45-32. 

  • An and-1 from Briana McGruder with 7:23 remaining in the period to put the Hawks behind 47-35.

  • A layup from Kennedy-Ryan Jackson  at the 5:53 remaining in the quarter brought the Hawks back within single digits at 49-40.

  • A three from Centre extended the lead back to double digits at 52-40 with 4 minutes remaining in the period.

  • Deshauna Foote's free throw with 1:05 remaining in the quarter brought Huntingdon back within 9 at 54-45.

 

Fourth Quarter

  • A Makayla Ford jump shot opened the 4th quarter scoring, bringing the Hawks within 7 at 54-47 with 9:45 remaining in the game.

  • A 12-2 run from Centre pushed their lead to 18 at 66-48 with 6:41 remaining in the game.

  • Centre's layup at the 4:38 mark extended their lead to 21, 71-50.

  • Still fighting, Huntingdon went on a 5-0 scoring run led by Kinstin Davis and Kennedy-Ryan Jackson to shrink the Colonel lead to 71-55 with 2:46 remaining.

  • Falling behind 75-56 with 1:33 remaining, the Hawks ran out of time to muster a comeback, and fell to the Colonels 77-56.

 

Key Notes

  • Centre shot 50% on field goals for the game, limiting Huntingdon to 35%.

  • Centre outrebounded Huntingdon 49-29

  • Huntingdon forced 19 Colonel turnovers while only commiting 12 of their own.

 

The Hawks come out of the Christmas break to take on Agnes Scott on the road January 2nd, opening CCS play for the season. Tip off is set for 6:00 PM CT.
