LaGrange's Hot Shooting Stuns The Hawks

LAGRANGE,Ga.- Huntingdon women's basketball (5-10 overall, 2-4 CCS) fell to the Panthers of LaGrange(12-4 overall,6-1 CCS) on the road, 101-50.

 

How it happened

 

First Quarter

  • The Panthers flew out the gate, taking a 7-0 lead in the first minute of the game

  • Two layups from Briana McGruder put an end to the run from LaGrange, but the Hawks still trailed 9-4 at the 6:15 mark

  • A three pointer at the 3:55 mark gave LaGrange their first double digit lead of the contest, 16-6

  • Two layups from Faith Johnson to close the quarter put the Hawks behind 26-12 at the end of the first period

 

Second Quarter

  • Kennedy-Ryan Jackson put in a layup at the 8:48 mark to give the Hawks their first points of the quarter, bringing the score to 30-14

  • LaGrange went on a 17-4 tear over the next 4 minutes to take a 47-18 lead

  • Two jumpers from Faith Johnson in the final minute put the Hawks behind 56-28 at the half

 

Third Quarter

  • Briana McGruder put in a layup off of a Cassidy Campbell steal to score the first points of the half at the 9:17 mark, bringing the score to 58-30

  • Up 65-34, the Panthers went on a 13-2 run to extend their lead to 80-36

  • Lauren Lyn sunk a jumpshot to stop the bleeding with 53 seconds remaining in the quarter, making the score 80-38

 

Fourth Quarter

  • Raven McCain scored the first points for the Hawks in the final quarter with a layup at the 8:51 mark to bring the score to 81-40

  • The Panthers stayed hot, going on a 12-8 run to push their lead to 93-48 with 3:15 remaining

  • Payton Corbett put in a midrange shot in the final 10 seconds of the game, but the Panthers hot shooting proved to be too much for the Hawks with a final score of 101-50

 

Key Notes

  • LaGrange shot 55% from the field and 36% from three, while the Hawks shot 32% from the field and 7% from three

  • Huntingdon was outrebounded 48-33

  • The Panthers led for the entirety of the matchup

 

The Hawks look to bounce back against on Tuesday, January 23rd at home against Wesleyan. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM CT.
