Hawks Comeback Falls Short To Conclude Regular Season Against LaGrange

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In their final CCS regular season matchup, Huntingdon women's basketball (11-14 overall, 8-8 CCS) fell to the LaGrange Panthers(18-6 overall, 13-3 CCS) at home 79-71.

 

How it happened

 

First quarter

  • Huntingdon opened the game on a 12-2 run courtesy of baskets from Briana Stuckey, Briana McGruder, and Deshauna Foote

  • Two free throws from Deshauna Foote pushed the score to 16-4 by the 4:57 mark

  • LaGrange closed the quarter on a 11-0 run to even the score at 18 going into the second period

 

Second quarter

  • Makayla Ford stopped the bleeding early in the second quarter with a layup, giving the Hawks a 20-18 lead 

  • A triple from the Panthers at the 9:27 mark gave LaGrange their first lead of the day, 21-20

  • Still battling, Deshauna Foote found room around the basket to give Huntingdon a 24-23 lead at the 7:34 mark

  • With 5:42 remaining until halftime, Kinstin Davis gave the Hawks a 29-25 lead with a jumper

  • LaGrange responded with an 8-1 run to close the half, holding a 33-30 advantage over Huntingdon

 

Third quarter

  • The Panthers picked up right where they left off to start the second half, opening up with a 4-0 run to push their lead to 37-30

  • At the 7:12 mark, Briana Stuckey finished a layup to bring Huntingdon within two at 39-37

  • The Panthers answered with a 9-2 run to hold a 48-39 lead at the 5:47 mark

  • A massive 16-1 run from LaGrange gave the Panthers a 64-42 lead at the 1:38 mark

  • Huntingdon closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, but still found themselves trailing 66-50 entering the final quarter of play

 

Fourth quarter

  • The Hawks kept fighting, going on a 10-4 run to cut the lead to 70-60 with 6:35 remaining

  • Kennedy-Ryan Jackson finished a layup to bring the lead to single digits, 72-64, with 4:27 remaining

  • The Hawks cut the lead to 74-69 with two minutes remaining, but LaGrange held on, making crucial free throws to walk away with a 79-71 victory

 

Key Notes

  • LaGrange shot 41% from the field, limiting the Hawks to just 30%

  • LaGrange scored 17 points off of turnovers

  • Each team held a double digit lead in this game
