Cahoon finishes fourth, Lady Hawks fifth at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The 13th-ranked Huntingdon women's golf team turned in the third best round in program history on Sunday and finished fifth in the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational.

The Lady Hawks shot 308 in the final round and finished with a three-round total of 941. Seventh-ranked Sewanee shot 303 in the final round and 902 for the tournament. Whitman College was second at 914.

"The girls played well and we played better each day of the tournament," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We shot 308 today and we beat some teams that were ranked in front of us. We are continuing to gain confidence."

Sunday's 308 was the third best round in Lady Hawks' history, behind a 301 last fall in the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational and a 307 earlier this month in the Callaway Women's Invitational.

Junior LeeAnn Cahoon shot a 1-over-par 73 on Sunday and finished fourth with a 54-hole total of 7-over 223. Sewanee's Emily Javadi was the tournament medalist with a 1-under 215. Bridgewater's Christina Herbert was the runner-up with an even-par 216.

Cahoon's 223 is the best three-round total in Lady Hawks' history. Her final-round 73 is one stroke off the program-record of 72 she set in the fall of 2014.

Freshman Hallie Rice shot 77 in the final round and 237 for the tournament and sophomore Kelsey Spivey shot 241. Junior Courtney Harville shot 77 on Sunday and 246 for the tournament and sophomore Lindsey Huff shot 247.

"LeeAnn had a good, solid performance this weekend," Schreyer said. "She had a poor fall season, by her standards, but she has come out of the gate strong during the spring and is back on track playing at the level she played during her All-American season last spring.

"Courtney shot a 77 today, which is her best collegiate round. It's good to see her picking it up and gaining confidence. During the past couple of weeks, at different times, all five of these girls have turned in some very good rounds. The next step is for all of them play well at the same time."
