Women’s lacrosse improves to 2-0

AMHERST, Va.  – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team set the tone early and beat Sweet Briar 14-5 on Saturday.

The Hawks scored three goals in the first nine minutes and built a 6-1 lead in the first half. The Vixens pulled within three goals late in the first half before the Hawks put the game away.

With the win, Huntingdon improves to 2-0 this season. This is just the second 2-0 start in program history and the first since 2013.

Freshman Kailey Laudicina led the Hawks with six goals and three ground balls, freshman Shelby Barrett added three goals and sophomore Shelby Blair finished with three goals, four ground balls, three draw controls and four caused turnovers.

Sophomore Savannah Ryan added one goal, one assist, four draw controls and three ground balls and freshman Jordan Alvis had one goal and three caused turnovers.

Alex Teague recorded four caused turnovers, Chassity Page had three caused turnovers and Vanessa Maldonado had four ground balls.

Sophomore goalie Morgan Coppini had 10 saves, five goals allowed and three ground balls in 60 minutes.
