Huntingdon falls to USA South West Division co-leader Piedmont in OT

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team rallied late to force overtime before losing to Piedmont 12-11 on Sunday.

Despite the loss, the Hawks' performance was one of their strongest in the history of the series with Piedmont. The one-goal loss was the closest game the Hawks have played against Piedmont in nine meetings.

In their first matchup this season, Piedmont won 19-6.

On Sunday, the Hawks trailed 11-7 with less than 12 minutes to play in regulation but scored four goals in a little more than eight minutes to tie the game. Jordan Alvis scored with 11:23 remaining to make it 11-8 before Olivia Stinson scored on an assist from Shelby Martin with 7:04 to play.

The Hawks continued to close the gap with two goals in 39 seconds. Keirstin Cramer scored on a free-position shot to make it a one-goal game with 3:48 remaining and Savannah Ryan scored on a free-position shot to tie the game with 3:09 left in regulation.

But Piedmont, the USA South West Division co-leader, ended the game with 1:46 left in overtime.

Martin led Huntingdon with three goals, three assists and six draw controls. Cramer finished with three goals and Stinson had two goals and one assist.

Ryan, Alvis and Shelby Blair each scored one goal. Ryan had a team-high eight ground balls and Blair had five draw controls.

Goalie Morgan Coppini recorded 10 saves, 12 goals allowed and five ground balls in 61:14.
