Women's Lacrosse Tied For 6th In The USA South Preseason Coaches Poll

MONTGOMERY,ALA.- Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse, led by coaches Kaitlin Cochran and Alyssa Martinez, were ranked 6th in the USA South Preseason Coaches Poll. The results of the poll with (first place votes) is as follows:

  1. Meredith- 79(7)

  2. Piedmont-73(3)

  3. Methodist-62

  4. Southern Virginia-61

  5. Brevard- 50

      T-6. Huntingdon- 33

      T-6. Pfeiffer-33

      8. N.C. Wesleyan- 25

      9. Greensboro- 20

     10. William Peace- 14

 

The Hawks roster features 9 returners, 8 of whom started for the Hawks last season. Offensively, Senior midfielder Mackenzie Wolford looks to be a steady force in the Hawks attack. The West Palm Beach, Florida native scored 17 goals last season, the most of any returning member of the roster. Senior goalkeepers Mia Haulbrook and Elizabeth Todd will anchor the Hawks defense. The duo secured a total of 132 saves for the Hawks last year and will provide consistency in the backline of the Hawks defense. Of the 9 returning athletes, 6 of them are in their senior season, and the experience of players such as Peyton Beachler and Colby Jones will benefit the Hawks going into the 2024 season.

Coach Cochran on the upcoming season: 

"we have a strong and resilient group of young women this season. We've been working hard in the preseason and I am beyond excited to see our growth and success as we move forward through our conference and non-conference matchups".

The Hawks take the field for the first time this season on Friday, February 23rd on the road at Spalding. Gametime is scheduled for 12:00 PM CT.
