Three Huntingdon wrestlers place in Cumberland Open

LEBANON, Tenn.  – Three Huntingdon wrestlers placed and nine Hawks combined to win 14 matches in the Cumberland Open on Sunday.

Quintez Pearson placed second in the 149-pound division, Andrew Smith placed fourth in the 125-pound division and Joseph Pearson placed fourth in the 285-pound division.

Quintez Pearson won his first three matches before losing in the 149-pound championship match. The senior won each of his first three matches by decision, advancing to the championship match with a 3-2 win. Pearson lost 3-1 in the final match.

Smith was 2-2 in the 125-pound division, earning a win by major decision in the quarterfinals before losing by decision in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket, Smith advanced to the third-place match with a win by decision before closing the day with a loss by decision.

Joseph Pearson was 2-2 in the 285-pound division. After losing his first match by pin, he won back-to-back consolation matches (pin and decision) before losing the third-place match by pin.

Kaleb Fontenot also won two matches for the Hawks. Fontenot was 2-2 and advanced to the 157-pound semifinals with a win by major decision and a win by decision. Fontenot lost by decision in the main bracket semifinals and lost by technical fall in the consolation semifinals.

Tristan Powell (133), Shade Lacombe (157), Jayson Spencer (165), Mac Hirsh (184) and Jack Haury (197) each won one match.
