Hawks compete in Newberry Open

NEWBERRY, S.C.  – The Huntingdon wrestling team won six matches in the Newberry Open on Sunday.

Quintez Pearson (149 pounds) and Jack Haury (197) each won two matches and Jayson Spencer (165) and Joseph Pearson (285) each won one match.

Quintez Pearson won his first match by decision to advance to the 149-pound quarterfinals. After a loss by decision in the quarterfinals, he won in sudden victory in Round 4 of the consolation bracket before losing by sudden victory in the fifth round of the consolation bracket.

Haury lost his first match by decision in the 197-pound bracket before winning back-to-back matches by decision in Round 1 and Round 2 of the consolation bracket. Haury lost by decision in Round 3 of the consolation bracket.

In the 165-pound bracket, Spencer lost his first match by pin before winning by pin in Round 3 of the consolation bracket. Spencer lost by major decision in Round 4 of the consolation bracket.

Joseph Pearson won his first match by decision in the 285-pound bracket before losing by decision in the second round. Pearson lost by decision in Round 3 of the consolation bracket.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon hosts the Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament in Wilson Gym on Saturday.
