Huntingdon women’s soccer ready to start season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's soccer team has been making steady progress since the start of preseason practice. Head coach Robert Milner likes the improvement he's seen and is optimistic heading into the first game.

"We've been working to come together as a team," Milner said. "Our expectations are high, but at the same time we know you can't read too much into the first game. Win or lose, it's going to take a few games for us to completely jell together.

"Our fitness levels have improved during the preseason and we're getting there, we just need a little game experience together. If we stay focused and keep working, I think we could have some good results during the first couple weeks of the season."

The Lady Hawks open the season at LaGrange on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

"This will be a good opening test," Milner said. "The games with LaGrange have a history of being close. If we focus on ourselves and doing what we're supposed to, I think we should be able to hold our own."

Tuesday's game will be the first of seven straight road games to open the season for Huntingdon. The Lady Hawks play their first home game on Sept. 29

"September is going to be a challenge with the schedule," Milner said. "But, there is a plus side and a negative side to everything. I think that traveling together is going to allow our team to develop a stronger unity. Hopefully by the first home game at the end of September, we're going to be ready to set up for a good run into October."
