Huntingdon women’s soccer falls to conference leader Averett

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's soccer team battled one of the top teams in the USA South on Sunday but came up short 2-0.

Averett (9-3-1, 6-0-1 USA South) scored two goals in the first half to make the difference. The Cougars, who are tied with Piedmont for first in the conference, took 26 shots with 11 shots on goal.

Huntingdon keeper Josie Byard allowed two goals and recorded nine saves in 90 minutes, giving her 107 saves and 18 goals allowed in 12 games. Byard leads the conference in saves and is second in save percentage (85.6%). She is fifth in goals allowed average (1.43) for keepers who have played in at least 10 games.

Kate Garrigan and Clara Tapplin combined for Huntingdon's two shots on Sunday.

Huntingdon hosts Covenant on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
