Lady Hawks tie LaGrange to close women’s soccer season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's soccer team took LaGrange to double overtime and ended the season with a 0-0 tie on Wednesday at Samford Stadium.

It wasn't the finish head coach Robert Milner and the Lady Hawks wanted for seniors Kendall Fant, Sam Havel, Dana Phillips and Kate Garrigan, but Milner saw plenty to be proud of this season.

"We made a lot of progress this season and we competed in every game. We didn't win as many as we wanted to, but we battled and were on the verge of several wins," Milner said. "I appreciate the leadership of our seniors and what they gave to this program.

"They mean a lot to me and to this program and it's going to be hard to replace them. But we hope to build off of what they've helped us start and continue to improve next season."

Wednesday was the seventh overtime game of the season for the Lady Hawks (4-11-3, 1-8-3 USA South) and the sixth double overtime game. The game was also the seventh shutout of the season for keeper Josie Byard and the Huntingdon defense.

Among USA South teams, only conference leader Maryville has posted more shutouts this season with eight. Huntingdon finished the season by allowing a goal or less in 12 of its 18 games.

Byard finished with 11 saves in 110 minutes on Wednesday and a conference best 158 saves for the season.

Clara Tapplin took seven shots against LaGrange (8-9-3, 3-6-3), including two shots on goal, for Huntingdon. Christian Boldin took one shot on goal and Courtney Staton and Kira Jo Bohlke each took one shot for the Lady Hawks.
