MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's and women's soccer programs welcomed their players to campus on Tuesday for the start of preseason practice.

A total of 22 players reported for the men's program. The Lady Hawks brought 20 players to campus.

"We are extremely excited to get preseason under way and have the players on campus," first-year men's head coach Matt Cooper said. "The first week will be a lot of hard work, but it will prepare us well for the season."

The men's program features 17 players from last year's roster as well as five newcomers. The Hawks begin practice on Wednesday at 7 a.m. and hold their first scrimmage on Friday at 3 p.m.

The Lady Hawks will hold their first practice at 6 a.m. on Wednesday and follow up with their first scrimmage at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Head coach Emily Barber's team consists of 11 returning players and nine newcomers.

"We are all excited to be back together," Barber said. "We put a lot of work in during the spring season and there is a lot of anticipation for the future. We're ready to get to work."

Both programs open the season on Sept. 1, with the men hosting Birmingham-Southern at 7:30 p.m. and the women traveling to Talladega for a 4 p.m. game.
