Hawks Drop Sunday Match at Berry

ROME, Ga. – Huntingdon suffered a tough women's soccer result at Berry, falling 6-1 to the host Vikings on Sunday afternoon.

The Hawks fired three shots in the match, all on target. Natalie Scoggins finally found the netting when she tapped in a mishandled cross in the 87th minute for an unassisted goal.

The play began when Huntingdon goalkeeper Carolina Masker made a save and sent a pass up the left side. The Hawks pushed the ball into the offensive half and forced a corner kick, their fourth of the second half.

Laney Bishop played a cross into the goal mouth, where Berry's Lily Osterkamp got her hands on the ball but couldn't hold on. The ball fell right at the feet of Scoggins on the doorstep, and she didn't miss for her first goal of the season.

Berry scored four times in the first half and added two more in the latter portion of the second half before Scoggins spoiled the shutout attempt.

Shots favored the home side 19-3, and corner kicks were even 4-4. Masker made seven saves for the Hawks, who dropped to 2-4-0. Berry is now 3-4-0.

Huntingdon is back in action Wednesday for its CCS opener, hosting Belhaven (2-2-1) in a 6 p.m. start. The Blazers opened their conference slate Saturday with a 3-1 win at Berea.
