GSAC Names First 2012 Tennis Player of the Week Awards

DECATUR,Ga.- The Great South Athletic Conference is pleased to announce its first batch of 2012 men's and women's tennis singles and doubles player of the week honors. Starting off on the women's side Katie Scott of Huntingdon and Hannah Kraus & Mariel Herrera of Agnes Scott earned singles and doubles, respectively. For the men, Piedmont's Nick Hallberg and Covenant's John Herberich and Andy Jones nab singles and doubles, respectively.

Scott earned her first singles award of the year with a stellar performance against Oglethorpe and Agnes Scott. She defeated Caffrey Francis from Oglethorpe 6-1,6-1 who is ranked 23 on the ITA south regional rankings. She then defeated conference opponent Salem 6-0,6-0 and went 6-4, 6-0 against Agnes Scott for 3/0 over the weekend and a 2-0 in conference play.

Kraus and Herrera also started their season strong over the weekend. Against LaGrange, the duo defeated Kelsey Ellison & Taylor Baldwin 8-1 at #2 Doubles and versus Huntingdon, they defeated Katie Scott & Christian Vick 8-5 at #2 Doubles.

Last week, Hallberg went 2-1 in #4 singles in three matches, as PC went 1-2 during the week. The freshman also went 3-0 in doubles competition at flight 2. Hallberg won 6-4, 6-2 against his Berry College opponent, dropped a 6-0, 7-6 decision against his Sewanee opponent, and won 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 against his foe from Millsaps.The duo from Covenant of Herberich and Jones helped the team to a 9-0 finish against Maryville while winning their doubles match, 8-1.
