Huntingdon’s Thibodeau and Moore recognized by GSAC
ATLANTA – Huntingdon freshman Britni Thibodeau and head coach Ximena Moore were each recognized with the release of the Great South Athletic Conference tennis awards.
Thibodeau was named Freshman of the Year and Moore was named Coach of the Year. All nine Huntingdon tennis players received some form of All-Conference recognition. Agnes Scott senior Rachel Storz was named Player of the Year for a fourth straight season.
Thibodeau is the second straight Huntingdon player to take home Freshman of the Year honors and the fifth since 2005. Huntingdon's Taylor Clark was named Freshman of the Year last season.
Thibodeau was 15-2 in singles during the regular season and was 9-0 in conference play. In doubles, she was 9-7 at No. 1 with teammate Hannah Still. In addition to Freshman of the Year, Thibodeau was named All-Conference at No. 2 singles and named to the All-Freshman team.
For Moore, this is her fourth GSAC Coach of the Year honor. Moore was also named Coach of the Year in 2005, 2007 and 2010. In 11 seasons as Huntingdon's head coach, she has a 137-70 record. Entering the GSAC tournament, Huntingdon is 17-3 this season and unbeaten in conference play.
Joining Thibodeau on the All-Conference team are sophomore Taylor Clark (No. 1 singles), senior Katie Scott (No. 3 singles), sophomore Hannah Still (No. 4 singles) and sophomore Micaela White (No. 5 singles). Clark, Scott, White and Arielle Barraca were also named to the All-Academic team.
Clark was 16-2 in singles in the regular season and was unbeaten in the GSAC. Among her victories at No. 1 singles was a win over Storz. Storz only has two conference losses in four seasons. Both have come against Clark. This is Clark's second straight All-Conference selection at No. 1 singles.
Scott is a four-time All-Conference selection and the Lady Hawks' NCAA-era career leader in singles wins, doubles wins and total wins. Entering the GSAC tournament, she has 13-6 singles record and is 7-2 in the GSAC.
Still is a two-time All-Conference pick. She was 17-2 overall in singles during the regular season and 10-0 in conference play. White, who was also named a Sportsmanship Award winner, was 6-1 in singles in the regular season and unbeaten in conference play.
All four of Huntingdon's freshmen (Thibodeau, Deidre Corbin, Farrah Mahan and Rory Wilson) were named to the All-Freshmen team. Entering the GSAC tournament, Corbin was 5-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles, Mahan was 9-3 in singles and 10-1 in doubles and Wilson was 8-4 in singles and 5-0 in doubles.
