MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's tennis team opened the 2014 John McWilliams Fall Invitational at Lagoon Park on Friday by winning all of its singles and doubles matches in the opening round.
In singles play, Hannah Still (No. 1), Caroline McBroom (No. 4), Tara-Beth Hall (No. 5) and Elayne White (No. 6) all won in straight sets, while Sarah Warren (No. 2) and Sandy Mayson (No. 3) won in three sets.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Still-White won 8-0 and the teams of Warren-McBroom (No. 2) and Hall-Mayson (No. 3) each won 8-6.
"I am very pleased with our performance today," Huntingdon head coach Ximena Moore said. "We won all of our first round matches, which is something we did not do last year. We also had some younger players who came from behind to win. I was very encouraged by our performance."
The Lady Hawks lead the tournament after one round of play with 18 points. In second, Millsaps College has 14 points and Birmingham Southern sits in third with 10 points. Point University and LaGrange College are tied for fourth with zero points.
