Huntingdon knocks off Tuskegee in season opener

DUE TO CURRENT COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, ONLY HUNTINGDON STUDENTS ARE PERMITTED AT OUTDOOR ATHLETIC EVENTS

TUSKEGEE, Ala.  – The Huntingdon women's tennis team opened the season with a 6-1 win over Tuskegee University on Saturday.

Due to the NCAA's scoring format for Division II programs, the scoring is handled differently than in Division III. In Division III, a team receives a point for each victory in doubles. In Division II, one point is awarded to the team that wins two or more of the doubles matches.

Per NCAA rules, when teams from different divisions compete, the rules of the home team's division are applied.

Huntingdon won two doubles matches and five of the six singles matches.

In singles, Lucy Burch (No. 3), Kennedy Harp (No. 4), Allison Stegall (No. 5) and Alonda Weaver (No. 6) each won in straight sets. Madeline Creel (No. 1) won in three sets. In doubles, the teams of Creel-Marisa LaJone (No. 2) and Burch-Harp (No. 3) picked up victories.
