Hawks Advance to First Ever CCS Championship

Lookout Mountain, Georgia – The Hawks have defeated the second seeded, Maryville Scots 3-0 to advance to the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship.

Led by first team all-conference honoree, #11 Kamea Nash with 7 kills, Huntingdon dominated the Scots from the start of the first set. The Hawks took at 8-1 lead and forced Maryville to take an early time-out. Huntingdon continued to fight to bring the score to 12-3 but Maryville refused to fall early and climbed back to get the set within 4 points (19-15). Coach Brady would then call a time-out to boost her team to close out the set by a block from #21 Izzy Valderperas and #24 Morgan Ilsley (25-18).

The second set claimed no issue for the Hawks as they continued to press on the Scots. #17 Reece Rhodes would prove her honor of second team all-conference with 5 kills to lead the Hawks in the second. Huntingdon went up early 7-2 to force the Scots to fight back yet again. Another time-out by Maryville, down 6 (16-10) would not be enough as they would only score 4 more points within the set that would end by a kill from Rhodes (25-14).

Third set deemed to be the most challenging for the Hawks even after taking a 4-point lead (8-4), the Scots would cut it to 1 (10-9) and look to gain their first tie/lead of the game. Hawks refused to let that happen and went on a 4-0 run to bring the score to 14-10. The Scots would continue to try and rally back but the set would end with an attacking error to push the Hawks to the Conference Championship Game.

The Hawks will play in the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship Game Saturday November 5^th at 2:00 pm CST in Lookout Mountain, Georgia to take on the winner of the semifinal match between the Mountaineers of Berea and the Scots of Covenant.
